Housing Instability
Women facing eviction, unaffordable rent, overcrowding, or the threat of losing their home — even when they are still employed and "making it work."
Employment Disruptions
Women navigating job loss, reduced hours, workplace challenges, or career transitions that threaten their financial footing.
Financial Hardship
Women managing debt, financial abuse recovery, or income gaps that make stability feel impossible — even when they appear self-sufficient on paper.
Family & Personal Transitions
Women navigating separation, divorce, custody challenges, caregiving responsibilities, or the loss of a primary support system.
Legal Challenges
Women facing civil legal issues — eviction proceedings, custody disputes, protective orders, or benefits denials — without access to guidance or representation.
Domestic Violence & Safety
Women experiencing or recovering from domestic violence, financial abuse, or coercive control — including those who are not yet in immediate danger but are at risk.
Early Intervention Makes the Difference.
Many existing crisis services are structured around acute intervention — reaching women once a situation has escalated to an emergency. These services do vital work, and their eligibility frameworks reflect the realities of limited capacity. But that structure leaves a gap: women who are still managing, still working, still holding on — and who don't yet meet the threshold for formal assistance.
Northlight works in that space — between "managing" and "crisis" — where early support is not only more compassionate, but dramatically more effective. When women receive navigation and advocacy before stability is lost, outcomes improve for them, their children, and their communities.

The NSRS was created to identify women who fall into The Gap — self-sufficient women in crisis whose challenges are serious enough to threaten stability, but not severe enough to qualify for traditional intervention. Many women facing housing instability, employment disruptions, financial hardship, family challenges, legal issues, or domestic violence are assessed as "too stable" for formal services — despite facing circumstances that directly threaten their safety, well-being, and future.
Northlight exists to serve women who are self-sufficient and in crisis at the same time.
The NSRS helps us recognize the warning signs before stability is lost, allowing Northlight to provide navigation, advocacy, resource access, and support before a setback becomes a catastrophe.

NSRS™ is a proprietary assessment tool developed by The Northlight Network Inc.
NSRS™ Risk Levels
The NSRS evaluates a woman's situation across multiple life domains, producing a composite risk score that guides Northlight's response and level of support.
Level 1
Stable With Support Needs
The individual is currently stable but would benefit from support, resources, referrals, or guidance.
