Our Story

About The Northlight Network

A nonprofit built on one conviction: women deserve support before they reach a breaking point — not after the system has already discouraged them.

Mission

"The Northlight Network exists to bridge the gap between crisis and stability by providing navigation, advocacy, resource access, and support to women facing life transitions, unexpected challenges, and barriers to self-sufficiency."

Vision

"We envision a future where women can access support before reaching a breaking point and where assistance is available without requiring individuals to lose stability or remain in crisis."

Our Origin

Why Northlight Was Founded

The Northlight Network was founded to serve the women who fall into The Gap — self-sufficient women in crisis whose challenges are serious enough to threaten stability, but not severe enough to qualify for traditional intervention. These are women who are managing and struggling at the same time, and who have nowhere to turn because existing services, with limited flexibility in their eligibility frameworks, are not yet structured to reach them.

In New Castle County alone, 27,000 households spend more than half their income on housing. Eviction rates are among the highest in the region. Domestic violence is the direct cause of homelessness for at least half of women who lose housing. And yet — many support services can only engage once a situation has already reached a breaking point.

Northlight was founded on the principle that early intervention is not only more compassionate — it's more effective. When women receive support before stability is lost, outcomes improve dramatically for them, their families, and their communities.

The name "Northlight" reflects our guiding philosophy: like a north star, we provide direction, clarity, and a fixed point of guidance for women navigating uncertainty. We are not a crisis service — we are a navigation system, a bridge, and a community of support.
